Mike attended graduate school at the University of Maine in Orono as an English Composition Teaching Assistant. During law school in Portland, he taught Writing for Paralegals at University of Southern Maine, he was on the Moot Court Team and he received the AmJur Award in Labor Law, and he worked as an Assistant District Attorney and at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic.
After joining the Maine Bar in 1980, Mike worked in Augusta as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Litigation Department. He then tried cases in military court as a criminal defense attorney in West Germany. Since 1984, Mike has practiced as a civil trial attorney focusing on medical malpractice, personal injury, and workers' compensation cases. Mike publishes the firm's workers' compensation newsletter, The Troubh Heisler Advance, and he lectures on workers' compensation law. He is a director of the firm.
Mike and his family have lived on Peaks Island since 1987. He was Vice-President of the Peaks Island Neighborhood Association and Co-Chair of the Island Independence Committee. He currently serves as Secretary of the Friends of Trefethen Evergreen Improvement Association and Chair of the Peaks Island Council. He enjoys golf, music and astronomy, and he writes a monthly astronomy column for The Island Times newspaper.
