Edwin A. Heisler is a director of the firm; a major part of his practice is estate planning and family wealth planning oriented. In addition, Ed's practice includes probate administration and litigation, business organizations and tax planning.
Over the past several years, Ed has brought numerous complicated tax controversies to a successful conclusion in the IRS Appeals Office or while the case is pending in the United States Tax Court.
Following graduation from Tufts University, Ed served as a naval officer on aircraft carriers before entering law school. While in law school, he received distinction as a member of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. Before settling in Maine, Ed practiced law in Washington, D.C., concentrating his practice in tax and estate planning.
Ed is a member of the Maine Bar Association (past Board member), American Bar Association, and the Maine Estate Planning Council (past President). He is also a past President of the Portland Country Club, past President of Goodwill Industries of Maine, and is active in other civic and charitable organizations.
Ed resides in Portland, Maine with his wife, Cynthia. Mr. and Mrs. Heisler have two children, two granddaughters and one grandson.
